Cash flow Sankey template

This is a quarter of cash movement drawn as a Sankey diagram. Opening cash and receipts enter, payments leave, closing cash is what remains.

It answers the question a board asks first: the cash went out of the door, and this is which doors.

Free to build and style. No account until you save.

Making it with your own numbers

  1. 1

    Start with opening cash

Opening cash is a source, like receipts. Closing cash is a target, like any payment. That is what makes the two sides balance.

  2. 2

    Paste your payments

One line per category. Keep the categories your board already knows, not the ones the accounting system uses.

  3. 3

    Export at deck size

1600 by 900 drops onto a slide without resizing. Clean PNG and SVG need a Pass; the watermarked PNG is free.

Questions

Can a Sankey show negative cash flow?
Yes, when closing cash is smaller than opening cash. Ribbons carry amounts, so the shrinking closing node does the talking.
Should I split operating, investing and financing?
You can. Add a middle node per category, then flow the payments out of it. Three columns stay readable; five rarely do.
How long does the next quarter take?
One paste. Open the saved diagram, paste the new numbers, re-run. The previous quarter is kept as a dated snapshot.

Other templates

Passes are paid once: $12 for a week, $39 for a quarter, $99 for a year. A Pass buys saving, re-running, saved themes and clean PNG or SVG export.
