Quarterly report Sankey template

This is one quarter of a business, drawn as a Sankey diagram. Revenue enters on the left; cost of revenue, department spend and operating profit leave on the right.

It is the picture for the quarterly report or QBR: the whole quarter in one diagram, drawn from the numbers already in the management accounts.

Making it with your own numbers

  1. 1

Sum the three months into a quarter

The report covers a quarter, so the diagram should too. Add the monthly lines together and paste quarterly amounts — three thin diagrams never add up to one readable one.

  2. 2

Paste the lines over the example

One line per movement of money: source, amount, target. The panel reads them as they are pasted and draws what it can.

  3. 3

Export at deck size and ship it

Deck suits a report or a slide. Next quarter, paste the new numbers over this diagram and the picture re-draws with the same shape.

Questions

How do I make a Sankey diagram of my quarterly report?
Sum the quarter's income statement into its main lines — revenue sources, cost of revenue, each expense department, profit — and write one flow line per movement. The template opens with a quarter already drawn.
Should the diagram show the quarter or each month?
The quarter. A quarterly report asks where the money went in the period; the month-by-month split belongs in the line charts beside it.
Can I reuse the same diagram every quarter?
Yes. Save it with a Pass, then paste the new quarter's numbers over it. Node order, theme and export size stay put, and the previous quarter is kept as a snapshot for comparison.
